Indigo
E prepared a vat for indigo dying and invited me to try it out. I’d been wanting to try indigo for a while; there’s something about the natural blue I find very compelling.
I enjoyed the process and maybe will write more on it at some point; the indigo vat is an interesting thing with unique requirements and a memorable smell. Indigo dye presents a lot of possibilities.
I think my most sucessful pieces from this first experiment were a pair of shirts that I dyed – one kind of spiral pattern, and the other an attempt at an ombre/gradient kind of thing. The latter didn’t come out quite like I originally intended, but I still quite like the result – some nice variations in color and texture. Here are some pics:
