Drawing Practice: Day 11
Lots of practice drawing circles and spheres today. Definitely something it will be helpful for me to practice a bunch more I think. Specific things for me to pay attention to I think:
- Making sure that I get good alignment between the circle and the interior ellipses–need to pay closer attention when ghosting or start lighter and adjust, make sure things are lining up well.
- Practice darkening one side of the ellipse while retaining the full ellipse stroke motion. There’s a temptation to shift to making more of a curved line, which leads to less curvature at the edges usually.
- Practice all different angles of making ovals.

I think maybe I will make sphere-drawing a warm up exercise going forward for a while, so I get the chance to practice it more.
Separately, I did a sketch of the Sheraton Commander in Cambridge from a photo reference I took. This was again mainly focused on getting the big shapes of value roughly correct. I started with a light pencil sketch, then added the marker, then the black pen last. I think it’s a nice process for me, because it gives a chance to get the layout more correct, and encourages me to use line more thoughtfully, since value is roughly handled already.
