Drawing Practice: Day 8
Today’s exercise was around experimenting with different expressive line qualities on a simple drawing. I do continue to find it interesting that he centers line quality and mark-making as such a core expressive dimension of drawing, and also pedagogically that he introduces that aspect so early in the course. There is an emphasis on the personality and individuality of an artist’s line – it can’t help but reflect who you are, your experience, your approach, how you are feeling etc. He mentions that the masters rarely intentionally smudge their lines, given that line is such a site of this perspective-making.
